Engineering at the University of Michigan

I love making stuff.

Not just robots or the little PLA figures I print, but also connections with people, memories that stick, and hopefully some impact that lasts.

About me

I'm Veer, an engineering student at the University of Michigan, and I love making stuff. Not just robots or the little PLA figures I print, but also connections with people, memories that stick, and hopefully some impact that lasts. Through JCNC, Milpitas Library, and my Boy Scout troop, I've helped with food insecurity and education for all ages.

Research at Berkeley's Nanotech Lab got me into medical devices that close gaps in healthcare access. Those gaps are everywhere, in our own communities and around the world. After working with hundreds of kids and families who don't always get the resources they need, I know that solving these problems, even small ones, really matters.

Outside of research and volunteering I'm usually outdoors, hiking, swimming, kayaking, rowing, whitewater rafting, or playing basketball and football. When I'm inside, I'm probably cooking. Mostly, I love building things, and at Michigan I want to find a community of people who feel the same way.

Where I am right now

I'm in Ann Arbor, MI, where it's …. I'm probably ….

Experience

Research, leadership, and building, from Bay Area labs to Ann Arbor. Open a role for the story.

Now at Michigan

  • V1 @ Michigan, Product Studio, Ann Arbor, MI

I'm in V1's Fall 2026 Product Studio cohort, Michigan's student builder community. We build new software products in small teams and ship MVPs in fast build and test cycles, with alumni founders and engineers close by for advice.

  • Michigan Private Equity & Venture Capital Club, Ann Arbor, MI

Michigan PEVC connects students with private equity and venture capital firms on real projects. I'm a member and an analyst on our engagement with Aspen Capital, a growth equity firm, where my research helps guide where it invests next.

Research & academia

  • Stanford SIMR, Stroke Rehabilitation Research, Stanford, CA

At SIMR, we built a device to help stroke patients sense where their body is in space, something called proprioception that most people never think about. Working on it made me notice how much I take for granted, like just knowing where my arm is without looking at it. Working alongside Stanford faculty and presenting in the Wu Tsai Neuroscience Building was a great and unique experience.

  • UC Berkeley Nanotechnology Lab, Microfluidics Research, Berkeley, CA

Working on the biosensing project in the lab taught me how we need to make things accessible instead of just "better". A device that costs too much to produce and deliver to those who need it defeats its purpose. I got to work with advanced carbon nanotube technology and multiphysics software, part of the first major project of my research journey.

  • Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Computational Biology (EinR), Berkeley, CA

Seeing the potential for AI to be used in medicine and potentially even drug development was really eye-opening. The pace at which technology is advancing will turn research findings once thought impossible into reality. Using software like PyMOL, AlphaFold, and Python, I studied DNA structures. I also co-developed a model for predicting DNA conformations from sequences.

  • AI in Medicine Research, Chicago, IL

Working with Dr. Speisman and other professionals, I analyzed how we can apply AI to epilepsy, and how effective current solutions are. I am the lead author on a review paper, and I presented findings at the Scientific Session of the ACAIM in Chicago.

  • Inspirit AI, Remote

My first real machine learning project. I built a convolutional neural network in TensorFlow that classifies X-ray screening scans, cleaned and augmented thousands of images with OpenCV, and raised accuracy by 15% before presenting it to the instructors.

Leadership & community

  • Boy Scouts of America, Troop 199, Fremont, CA

It's an honor to receive my Eagle rank after nine years in scouting. Nine years, nearly a tenth of the average lifespan, but it's shaped far more than 10% of who I am. Leading a troop of over 45 scouts taught me how to get a group together and motivate them.

  • JCNC (Jain Center of Northern California), Milpitas, CA

At JCNC food drives, there's this moment when you hand someone a meal, and they smile, not at the food but at you, and suddenly all those hours of prep work feel like the smallest effort for the biggest return. With JCNC, I organized food drives and events, taught youth classes, and assisted elderly community members.

Entrepreneurship & robotics

  • FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), Irvington High School, Fremont, CA

As FBLA president, there was always something going wrong, a new problem every other week. Dealing with it taught me that leading is about getting everyone through it together. I placed 1st at State in Financial Statement Analysis, qualified for Nationals three times, and was a national finalist. Still, watching the chapter grow, with more people joining and doing better at competitions, felt like the real accomplishment.

  • FIRST Tech Challenge, Team Innov8rz, Fremont, CA

Robotics taught me fast that robots break. A lot. My job was to design something we could fix quickly between matches, not the prettiest or sturdiest robot. With Innov8rz we qualified for the FIRST World Championship twice, taking top awards along the way for both the robot and our outreach to 5+ countries.

  • BuildJet, Build Green, Build Smart, Fremont, CA

I started BuildJet in 2022 thinking I'd make easy money with my 3D printer. Turns out it wasn't that simple. Prints would fail halfway through, customers wanted changes I hadn't planned for, and shipping was always more complicated than it should've been. Running it taught me that entrepreneurship is really just dealing with problems until you figure them out, and you can't just give up when things get annoying.

Off the clock

What I do when I'm not in a lab or a lecture.

Basketball

The court is where I go to clear my head, and it's how I meet people. Some of my best conversations have happened during pickup games, about anything from politics to whatever happened that day. If you tell me you play, I'll expect to see you out there. I'm a huge Warriors fan and ready to start cheering for Michigan too.

3D printing

It started with a 3D pen. I could make things out of thin air, so of course I made Beyblades and spun them on the dining table. When the pen broke, I talked my parents into a 3D printer and printed anything I could design or find online. Among Us figures came first, and once my friends wanted their own, it turned into a business.

Geography

I've loved geography since elementary school, from capitals to rivers to mountain ranges. It keeps me curious about how much of the world is still out there. If you catch me staring at my lock screen for too long, I'm trying to work out where the photo was taken.

There's a GeoGuessr-style game made from my own photos at the bottom of this page. Play it

Cardboard building

Seeing piles of Amazon boxes thrown out every week bothered me, so I started building with them. It got to the point where I asked my parents to order extra-strong cardboard. I built a robot suit (better than Tony Stark's) and a full-sized house (full-sized to me, anyway).

Escape rooms & strategy games

I've beaten 32 escape rooms, and I'll play almost any strategy board game, from Catan and Risk to Othello and Monopoly. I like putting my brain to the test, and escape rooms make me question every assumption about the room around me.

Two truths and a lie

Pick the one you think is the lie.
